Upcoming Helping Hands Mission Trip
Duane Bonnema is organizing a group of adult leaders along with volunteer Junior and Senior high school students to lend a helping hand to the 2008 flood victims in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This group will be leaving Monday, April 6, 2009, at 5:00 am, and returning Saturday, April 11 in the evening. We are in need of more adult leaders, especially those with skills in carpentry, sheet rocking, shingling, and wiring. If you are unable to join us on this trip, but are willing to help, you can be a part of this ministry by: supplying tools, donating your van for a week, supplying food (snacks for the trip and/or non-perishable items for meals when we're there), and supporting us financially. Most of all, your continued prayers and support are coveted as we prepare, Lord willing, to lend a helping hand to those in need. If you have any questions or can help in any way, please contact: Duane Bonnema or Andy Ypma.

1 John 3:16 - 18
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."

What can I do to help end homelessness?
If you are asking what can I do to help end homelessness? The Continuum of Care (COC) of Southwest Minnesota would like to invite you to a Homelessness Resource Fair on Thursday, March 12th from 11:00am - 12:30pm at the Health and Human Services Building in Willmar, MN. Are you aware that:
¨ Southwestern Minnesota had nearly 200 people were considered homeless in 2007?
¨ 72 of those were in shelters, the rest were without and access to help or support
¨ 57% of homeless adults had children with them
¨ 22% were homeless because they left situations of domestic violence
¨ 25% had experienced some type of mental illness
¨ 7% of households included at least one Grandparent!
In Southwestern Minnesota single adults, youth and families that are homeless live in cars, tents, campers, rental storage units, twenty four hour businesses, bathrooms of businesses closed at night, resided in overcrowded conditions, outside, fish houses, barns, apartment stair wells, and other places not meant for human habitation.
The Continuum of Care is a participatory planning process for coordination and organizing resources on a regional level to meet the needs of homeless and near-homeless individuals and families. Our goal is to ensure individuals and families in crisis have access to a logical, interconnected system of housing and social service supports, no matter where someone finds themselves on the crisis continuum. If you have any questions feel free to call the resources listed below.
