Jennifer (Huisinga) Norbie Benefit

Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer in September of 2002 at the age of 24. Jennifer’s treatment included a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, reconstruction and treatment with Tamoxifen. In 2006, she was declared cancer free. On May 1, 2007, Jennifer and her husband Luke welcomed their first child, baby daughter Kaiya. During Jennifer’s Caesarean section, it was discovered that cancer had metastasized to her ovary, liver and lung. After an extended stay in Rice Hospital, and consultation with Cancer Centers of America in Illinois, Jennifer is receiving medical treatment in Willmar. Recent tests results demonstrated that the cancer is responding to treatment.
Jennifer, the daughter of Don and Dorothy Huisinga of Renville, is an employee of ACMC in Willmar. Luke, the son of Steve and Nancy Norbie of Willmar, is employed as a child protection worker at Kandiyohi County Social Services. Because of her treatment, Jennifer’s absence from work has been extended beyond her maternity leave. She hopes to return to work for a few hours a week in the near future. Luke was diagnosed in 2004 with Crohn’s disease. Since the return of Jennifer’s cancer, Luke has experienced health problems that have required him to take an unpaid leave of absence from his work.
To assist Luke and Jennifer with costs related to loss of income and treatment, family and friends of the couple have initiated several activities. A bank account has been established to receive cash donations. Checks made payable to “Jenny Norbie Benefit Account” may be directed to: The Jenny Norbie Benefit Account at Wells Fargo Bank, 101 19th Ave. SW, Willmar, MN 56201.

“The Jennifer (Huisinga) Norbie Benefit” is planned for August 18. The public is invited to attend all activities. The event will be held on the MinnWest Technology Campus on North Highway 71/23 in Willmar, MN, at the Life Science Innovations Building at 1800 Technology Drive NE. Activities include a co-ed grass volleyball tournament beginning at 10 am, a prayer walk from 2-4 pm, children’s activities from 2-4 pm, a silent auction from 4-6 pm and a live auction beginning at 6 pm, a free-will donation picnic dinner from 4:30 to 7 pm, and a DJ. All proceeds will be donated to Jennifer and Luke Norbie.

An e-mail account jennynorbiebenefit@gmail.com has been established for public communications regarding the benefit. To assist planners, those who are interested in participating in the benefit are requested to send an e-mail to the address above. In the subject line of the message include the word:

“Volleyball” --- to register a volleyball team for the tournament.

“Picnic”--- to indicate the number in your party who will attend the picnic.

“Auction”--- to donate an auction item.

“Volunteer” --- to volunteer to help with the event.

Welcome to Unity Church!

Jesus has poured out his love for the church by giving his own life for us; and today he invites us to let the light of his love shine through us as we hear from his Word, respond to his grace through prayer and praise, and pour out ourselves to him in worship.

Dean was the pastor at Unity CRC from 1992 to 1998 before joining the faculty of Calvin Seminary.
