WORSHIP NOTES

Welcome to Unity! God is very faithful from generation to generation! We celebrate His goodness and faithfulness to us today in our worship celebrations! Come and see today that the Lord is good and His love endures forever!

This morning’s message takes a look at the significance of the passing of one generation to the next the stories of the mighty deeds of God. The challenge is not only passing this on but seizing the moments that too quickly pass us by to help shape and set course for the next generation. The power of legacy left by the older generation can be a formative, life-changing, foundation for the next generation. But it needs to be passed on. Learn this morning how the faithfulness of God and the legacy of mankind set course for the next generation.

This morning we celebrate God’s faithfulness through the generations with the Profession of Faith of three more of young people. We give thanks today for the testimonies of Kaitlyn and Shara Leininger and Jessica De Groot, giving voice to their love for Jesus Christ and their desire to participate fully in the community of believers here at Unity!

This evening we welcome Rev. Tim Berends, who is currently serving as a missionary in various parts of the world. Tonight he will present a dramatic reading of the book of Jonah, teaching on the transforming priorities of God in light of the spread of the gospel around the world that he has experienced. Tim was supported as a missionary early on at Unity and we welcome him back this evening!

On Tuesday, June 7, the KCGN (Praise FM) transmitter in the Ortonville area was hit by a tornado. The insurance company will cover some of the costs of replacement but the station will have to absorb the rest. They are attempting to transmit on low power at this time till everything gets replaced. Please be in prayer for the station as it begins work of replacing the items lost in the storm and covering these costs.

Thank you for the great support for the sub supper. We will have a very short Relay for Life meeting immediately following the morning service today. If you haven't signed up, it's not to late to join in raising funds for the fight against cancer. We will meet in the sanctuary.

WORSHIP NOTES

Welcome to Unity Church on this Day of the Lord! It is our desire that every person in this place have an authentic encounter with God. He has invited us here to worship and he is seeking those who would worship him in spirit and truth. May you find life and joy and grace and love as you seek the presence of God in Christ today.

This Morning: As we engage in worship together each Sunday, it is our purpose and goal to experience the presence of God. In essence, what we desire is to commune with Christ. When we celebrate the Lord’s Supper that is exactly what we are doing. The Holy Spirit takes this symbolic act of worship and makes it a true communion with Christ himself. This morning Pastor Jeff will share some of the insights about the role of the Holy Spirit in the Lord’s Supper that were included in his Master’s thesis, and that have led to the desire for (and practice of) more frequent celebration.

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper: Whether a guest or a member, you are invited to join us in receiving the bread and the cup at the Table of the Lord this morning. If you have committed your life to Jesus Christ as Lord, and recognized your need for him as Savior, and desire to connect with him in a deep personal way, then you are more than welcome to come forward to receive the elements through which God nourishes and sustains us, forgives us, and assures us that he will keep all his promises to us.

This Evening: Would you say that you are “walking on water” these days? What about during life’s storms what do you focus on, the wind or the Savior? Tonight we will learn a valuable lesson from Peter—a lesson about trusting Jesus in the middle of the night, in the middle of the storm, and even (or especially!) when you are doing what you thought was impossible. How did Peter learn this lesson? Through just a little faith in a huge God. Come tonight and ask God where he might be calling you to get out of the boat and to do more than you ever imagined.

Professions of Faith: Today we will hear the public professions of faith of Michael Ammerman, Jason Groen, Rachelle Poppema, Jordan Zondervan and Brittany Blom, who will also be baptized. We celebrate the seeds of faith that God planted in them and that have been nurtured in so many ways so that today they can say, “Yes, I believe in Jesus!” and we give unending thanks to God for each of these young people. Please continue to pray for them as they, with all of us, grow up into the fullness of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Name Tag Sundays: You will notice people wearing name tags today. Once a month we will have name tags available and encourage everyone to wear them to make our guests feel welcome and to help us connect with each other and get to know one another better.

Dordt Jubilee Sunday A special worship service commemorating the 50th anniversary of Dordt College has been scheduled for Sunday evening, June 26. It will be a combined service for area CRCs, and will be held in the First CRC sanctuary at 6:30pm . Thanks also to Pastor Steve and Angela (and all those who hid their secret) for the surprise visit to support us in Grand Rapids. We have been very honored to be a part of this congregation and are grateful that the opportunity was made for me to do this. - Jeff and Wendy Fisher

The family of Dick F Marcus would like to thank everyone for helping us celebrate Dad's heavenly journey. The food and meals showed your kindness, the prayers and cards your love, the gifts your generosity. Dad and Mom loved your visits over the last 5 months. We experienced such a blessing being part of this family of God. We will never forget it.

Congregational Meeting Notes: The Unity Church congregation ratified the council’s decision to extend the current relationship with Pastors Jeff and Wendy for another year by an 82-20 vote. WORSHIP NOTES

Welcome! We are delighted that you have chosen to join together with us for worship today! May the Lord fill your heart with joy and peace as you open your heart to Him in worship today.

This morning we celebrate God’s promises in our lives through the baptism of Camden Brouwer, son of Dave and Laura Brouwer.

This morning’s message takes us on a journey of oneness. We are increasingly diverse in culture and church. Diversity has intrinsic beauty and inherent challenges. Oneness brings out the beauty of diversity and division sabotages it. The Scriptures call us to oneness in order that the individual beauty of each person is revealed. How is this possible – oneness in diversity? Here’s your clue: One God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This evening we will explore some of the mysteries that surround death. Why is it that some die at what seems to be the “right” time while others linger or suffer or in our opinion should die sooner than they do? What happens in those final moments before being translated into heaven? Come explore these and other mysteries this evening.

NIGHT VISION starts its summer season tonight at our NEW TIME: 7:30pm. We would love to see you tonight and throughout the summer!

Next Sunday we will be celebrating our life in Christ through our Communion celebration and the testimonies of several of our young people giving their professions of faith. Make plans to celebrate together next week at 9:30am.

Two life journeys on this earth came to an end this week in our community and church family. Wilbur Duininck and Dick Marcus both saw 90+ years this side of eternity and now are celebrating life forever in the presence of the Lord. We extend our love to Harris & Connie Duininck, Lee & Sandy Duininck, Trevor & Janey Duininck, and the extended Duininck family with Wilbur’s passing. His funeral was in our church this past Friday. We also extend our love to Daryl & Bev Marcus, Wally & Rachel Marcus, and the entire Marcus family with Dick’s passing. Dick’s funeral will be held tomorrow morning at First Church.
