WORSHIP NOTES

Welcome to Unity Church this morning. We are delighted that you have joined us for worship. We gather together for the one purpose of worshipping Jesus Christ, the living God and Savior of the world. Our desire is that you would be blessed by the sense of God’s presence and the fellowship of God’s people.

This morning we take a brief look at the topic of Heaven. What will Heaven be like? Is it some remote place that we know very little about? Do we even desire to go there, or is this Earth more appealing? The Bible has a great deal to say about Heaven, but unfortunately our views on Heaven have been shaped more by philosophy, movies, TV shows, and other people’s ideas. Many misunderstandings about Heaven have led us to have incorrect assumptions about what it will be like that have resulted in us not really longing for a better home like the people of faith in Hebrews 11. May we be the kind of people who look forward with eager anticipation for our true home, when Heaven and Earth become one and we live forever in the presence of God on this renewed Earth.

On this Memorial weekend we especially remember those of our congregation who are serving in the military, Ken Cambell and Adam Swinney, with our continued prayers and support.

Congratulations to Chelsey Zondervan and Krista Leininger who both graduated from CMCS this weekend!

NEXT WEEK: The times of our services will change June 5. Morning Worship - 9:30am; Evening worship - 5:00pm; Night Vision - 7:30pm

The mission team will meet next week Sunday morning at 9:00am to pray for our missionaries. We will pray especially for Bob Dykstra’s health. Everyone is welcome to come and pray with us.

Please circle Wednesday June 8 on your calendar for our annual congregational meeting. We will meet at 7:00pm to select two new elders and one new deacon, to approve the budget, and to engage in some general Q & A. You should have received an agenda this past week in the mail. If you did not receive one, please contact the office.

Come early and enjoy sub sandwiches, chips, and pop before the congregational meeting on June 8. Serving starts at 6pm, free will offering for Relay for Life. Informational Relay for Life meeting following the congregational meeting.

WORSHIP NOTES

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We welcome you to this place of prayer and worship today. On this day we celebrate and remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. May you find tremendous blessing and refreshment as you join us this day to acknowledge that Christ is King, experience the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and know the love of the Father that penetrates our hearts and souls.

Repeating the Story Again: This morning as we celebrate and worship together, we remember the events of that Day of Pentecost when the Spirit was poured out and the story of Jesus was told to all the Jews who had gathered for this harvest festival. It is stories like these that we pass on from generation to generation that remind us of God’s goodness, faithfulness, and love. They are stories that touch us, that challenge us, and that shape how we look at the world around us. We all have many events in our lives that are etched into our memory because they changed our lives forever. Many of these stories need to be told again, especially those that remind us of the greatness and glory of God. The past influences the presence. And while there are some things that we learn about so they won’t be repeated, there are other events that, though they cannot be repeated exactly the way they happened the first time, we would like something similar to happen in our day. An outpouring of the Spirit similar to Pentecost is one of those.

Professions of Faith: We have the privilege and blessing to hear from some of our young people this morning as they profess their faith in and love for Jesus. This is a wonderful time of celebration in our community. The Holy Spirit has revealed the truth about Jesus to these young people, made it so that this truth could be understood and accepted, and now empowers them to proclaim that Jesus is Lord in the midst of the body of Christ. May their stories be an encouragement to all of us to boldly confess the name of Christ like the apostles at Pentecost.

Global Day of Prayer Service: Tonight we will continue our participation in the Global Day of Prayer. This time of prayer and worship will be very participative as together we seek the glory of God, the love of God, and the reign of God bring us to repentance, empowerment, and victory as we eagerly await the coming of our glorious Savior. We will also take some time to see what is happening around the world on this global day of prayer. Please join us as we ask God to abundantly pour out his Spirit in our lives, our church, our community, and our world.

WORSHIP NOTES

The Lord be with you today! Welcome to Unity and the house of God for worship! This church is about the saving work of Jesus Christ making all things new. In our brokenness and faults we come today knowing that God is not done with us yet. God is doing a new thing and our ascended Lord seals this newness in each one. Come and worship. Come and listen. Come and be healed. Come and be new today!

This morning’s message comes in light of the church calendar marking Ascension Day, the day our Lord ascended victoriously into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God with all authority and power. Christ’s ascension is more than just a historic act that the church celebrates. Christ, now seated in the place of honor and authority, releases a new thing and new day in the hearts and lives of His people because He is risen and He is ascended to the throne as King. The impact is not only in the spiritual realm or somewhere in eternity. It is right here, right now, right in this place, today! Come and worship the King today!

This morning we celebrate our victorious King by remembering the incredible sacrifice of His life for us. Our communion celebration, while remembering the somber events of Good Friday, will point beyond the cross and grave to the heavens, to the throne of Jesus, the Lord our Savior and victorious King. If you are perfect, please do not come to the table today. But if you are someone who is sinful and broken, in need of a Savior, and if you have declared Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and are committed to serving Him, please come to the table today. Eat, drink, remember and believe, the King lives and so shall you!

This evening we will reflect on the Kingship of Christ as it impacts the final days before his return. The little book of Jude reminds us that in the last days times will get tough, especially in the church. There are many bent on undoing the Kingship of Christ in the church universal today. Come tonight to be challenged and encouraged in these last days to be children of the King, victorious children and inheritors of life forever.

NIGHT VISION tonight! 8:30pm – a great way to close the day in worship!

You probably have noticed a different drum set in the front of church. This used "jazz drum set" was recently purchased at a very good price. Someone from our congregation paid a generous amount for our used set and outside funds collected to support Night Vision worship made up most of the difference. This newer drum set has a softer, smoother sound than our existing set and will fit nicely with our worship structure at Unity.

2005 "Helping Hands" Mission Trip Report

Many lives were touched on this year's "Helping Hands" Mission Trip. Not only the lives of the people we helped in Mississippi, but also the lives of the students who offered their services to the needy. The centerpiece of our trip was and always is time spent dwelling on the truths of the Word of God. I was privileged to see the lives of our kids being touched through this experience. Please pray that the seeds planted will continue to sprout and grow greatly. Our group is very grateful to you for your prayers, food donations and generous monetary support. Your response to our requests was overwhelming, and we could not have proceeded with this trip without your contributions. The Lord blessed us tremendously this year with great results, both earthly and spiritual. On behalf of the entire group, we thank you so much for your love and support! - Duane Bonnema & the "Helping Hands" Group
