The street north of the church and the main parking lot are now paved and can be used. The small lot on the west side (by the kitchen) should not be used during the week. It is and will continue to be used for staging and storing equipment and materials.

On Sundays, we ask that you leave the spaces in that lot, and those closest to the doors in the main lot, available for those who have difficulty walking. You may also continue to use the grass lot across the street or park along the street.

In addition to the site work, the last couple weeks the primary work has been the underground work in the sanctuary, and exterior and interior work on the office and nursery wings.

Now that all the structural steel has finally arrived, the plan (assuming decent weather) is to build the exterior peak, put up the interior wood ceiling and the electrical work that goes in it, and finish the roofing within the next three to four weeks.

The team has also been working on finalizing the purchase of the pews and chairs, and the ordering of the audio / visual equipment.

We are planning for a more thorough update and "walk-through" on December 14 after the morning worship service. The targeted completion date is still mid-April. We thank you for your support and cooperation during this time of construction.
We will be purchasing our audio visual equipment from New Life Communications in Willmar.

The design includes:
  • 2 rear projectors and two 7.5' x 10.5' screens on either side of the platform
  • Speakers, amps, cords, wires, jacks, and sound board
  • Light bars with minimal stage lighting
This will be a basic "bare-bones" system that provides us with what we need for now.  There will be conduit, wiring, and other provisions included that enable us to expand for sound and lighting in the future.
We have ordered the seating for the sanctuary from New Holland Furniture.  This is a sample of what our pews will look like.
(Note: the fabric and stain we have selected is different than what is pictured, but will look similar).

Radius Pew ExampleBelow is the seating layout that shows how many rows of pews we will have (on the sloped floor) and how many chairs will be in the front.  Additional chairs can be added behind the back row of pews, if necessary.

Seating Layout
If you are wondering the logic behind the radius pews (or "curved pews"), here is a basic explanation of the space saved by increasing functional seating capacity:

Comparison of Radius Pews to Mitered PewsIt basically amounts to 1 additional seat with the radius pews for every 10 seats using straight pews.

That means in our layout (not including an extra row in the back):
  • As designed, we have seating for 350 (284 in pews and 66 in chairs).
  • If we had gone with mitered pews in the space we have, we would only have seating for 312 (256 in pews and 66 in chairs).
  • In order to have seating for 350, we would have needed an additional 47 feet of pews (or 2-3 additional long pews) that would cost about $4500-5000 more.
Using the radius pews in the "bowl" layout creates the welcoming atmosphere we are seeking while still being able to seat sufficiently.
